It was almost a week ago that I wrote that according to the ortuguese paper, O Jogo, Manchester United have agreed a £25m deal for 24-year-old Benfica star Nicolás Gaitán.
Then I wrote that:
He (Gaitan) has a release clause of £45m, which means that either United have done a great job negotiating the deal, or that the transfer fee includes about £20million of United talent moving to Portugal. Hopefully it is the former.
Well it seems that the United talent moving to Benfica will be Fabio da Silva and Federico Macheda according to the Daily Telegraph. Fabio will be joining on a season log loan while Macheda’s move is expected to be permanent. Fabio and Macheda don’t equal the shortfall between Gaitan’s buyout clause and what United are paying, so don’t be surprised to see another United player (Anderson?) head to Portugal also in the deal.
Fabio has already been talking to O Jogo about playing for Benfica next season saying:
“I am excited about the opportunity to play for Benfica, being a famous and great team.
“I feel very honored by the interest of Benfica, but my transfer now depends on Manchester United completing negotiations.”
Not sure whether the signing of Gaitan means that Nani will be on his way out of Old Trafford this season, or whether it is simply SAF making sure he has four wingers competing for two positions. Hoping that it is the latter, and I would hate to see Nani go, especially considering the way he played last season.

Yah its really a good deal but SAF still needs the attacking midfileder than wingers. For now Nani do not impress the united fans compaired to Valencia, in the case of Young He sees united as where he needs not to work as compaire to Villa.
Jesus wept you don’t really beleive this shite do you? One rag pushing another rags’ story that was thought up after a dozen or so pints…
