Is United Willing To Sell Rooney?

by David on January 7, 2012

That is the question that James Lawton asked in the Independent on Saturday, and he believes that Sir Alex is willing to listen to offers for United’s best player.

Lawton, who is one of England’s most respected journalists writes:

The Christmas bust-up between Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex Ferguson has run so deep that it could lead to the player’s departure as early as the current transfer window.

One source close to Manchester United yesterday suggested that their working relationship has been seriously damaged – a situation that has raised fears at Old Trafford that a move could indeed happen this month.

This belief is provoked by strong feeling around the club that Ferguson believes he has lost control of Rooney.

Remember it was only a year ago when Rooney was all set to move to Man City last January after putting in a transfer request at United, only to do an abrupt about face and sign a new deal with the club.

I know that Fergie has gotten rid of stars before when he felt challenged by the players. The difference then was that United still had world class players left to take over. That is not the case today. Take Rooney out of the squad today and name me another world class player in the United team?

There isn’t one, which is why I don’t think this story has legs. Fergie and Rooney might be pissed off at each other over the Boxing Night dinner out, but Fergie knows he needs Rooney if United are to win anything this season.
