A grueling pre-season schedule that saw United play on three continents continues to hamper the teams performance on the pitch as they once again be without the defensive quartet of Phil Jones (back), Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling (both foot) and Rio Ferdinand (leg) for this weekend’s Fulham game.
“Phil Jones started training yesterday but tomorrow is too soon for him. Robin has had a few days training since Monday. It’s a home game and there’s every chance he could get a start.
“It’s pretty much the same as Monday night injury-wise. Alex will be involved tomorrow because he gives that back-up. Evra could actually play centre-back. He has done in the past. But I don’t think Alex will start tomorrow, I think he’ll be on the bench.”
Despite his selection headache in defence, Ferguson has signaled that exciting Chilean teenager Angelo Henriquez is his fifth and final signing of the summer transfer window.
‘We definitely won’t be buying anyone else,’ he said. ‘There is no movement about anyone going the other way.
‘Henriquez is on his way back to Manchester. He had to go back to Chile.
‘He came over when he was 15 and 16. We kept in close contact with him and, when he got to 18, it was a matter of whether or not we left him for another year or decided to get him in.
‘But he had such a good summer, that we decided to bring him in.’
Dimitar Berbatov and Nani have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford and SAF was asked if there would be any likely departures:
‘There is no movement I can tell you about, to be honest with you.
‘There is only a few days left now until the deadline and that will pass quite quickly I would imagine.’
