United skipper Vidic has been out of action since December after suffering knee ligament damage during a Champions League game in Basel.
The 30-year-old was forced to miss the rest of the campaign but is close to making his return after months of rehab and conditioning work.
Vidic has returned to full training but will not travel with the rest of the United squad on their pre-season tour of South Africa and China.
United leave for South Africa on Monday but Vidic will continue his recovery programme at the club’s Carrington training complex.
The central defender is expected to return to match action when United play pre-season friendlies in Norway and Sweden in early August.
United play Valerenga of Norway on August 5 and face four-time European Cup winners Barcelona in Gothenburg on August 8.
The loss of Vidic was a huge blow to United in last season’s title tussle with neighbours Manchester City, who won it on goal difference.
Jonny Evans filled the void left by Vidic, who is set to resume his successful partnership with Rio Ferdinand at the start of the new season.
